Ziggurat
Vast, complex structures used for multiple purposes by various ancient peoples. Despite their astounding height and width, most ziggurats were accessible via only one easily guarded and self-destructible external staircase. Structural purposes include, but are not limited to: the escape of Great Floods and initiations of the Eleusinian Mysteries [1].
