The first (successfully) cloned mammal. A female Finn-Dorsett sheep, Dolly was given the birthdate July 5, 1996 by genetic scientists, despite being developed in a Scottish laboratory. Plagued by debilitating arthritis, various digestive disorders, and lung disease, Dolly's very existence has become a flashpoint of controversy, with various animal rights groups[1] advocating for her euthanasia and stringent restrictions on future cloning studies.
