Second in Konami Dream's phreque leak series was Matrix Racer, a NESticle-fueled ROMhack mutation of the NES's flagship racing platform, Rad Racer, which was covertly released piecemeal on various UseNet BBS posting boards by resident hacker fantom_limb (later known as S.O.T.A.). The hack features significant manipulation of the game's character graphics, or sprites, and the addition of a poetic and disturbing final cinematic cut scene. The game’s files concealed an illegally rendered high quality .mp3 of "Pole Position", a textural rap track featuring introspective lyrics by the rapper Aeon Flux, modular synthesizers by BARCODE, and a swirling stew of electronic percussion and sound effects.
