Generation X AKA Gen X

The cohort of people born roughly between 1965 and 1980. Often portrayed as the "middle child" of modern generations, Gen X is frequently described as skeptical and disaffected, coming of age during a time of shifting cultural values, rising divorce rates, and the dawn of digital technology. Music is central to the Gen X identity. Eschewing the flamboyance of [[Hair-metal|hair metal and '80's pop, Gen X'ers instead gravitated to fringe genres like grunge, no wave and power electronics. Boomer-led corporate interests eventually unlocked with Gen X code using subversive advertising approaches, in essence weaponizing the generation's fiercely independent spirit to popularize soda products like Crystal Pepsi, sneaker products like the Reebok Pump™[1][2], and various technological gadgetry. As a verb, Gen X'ing includes behaviors like wearing distressed flannel, using outdated floppy discs, and rolling one's eyes with ironic detachment.
