Illuminati QuartetΩ
A New York City-based experimental string quartet active throughout the late 1970's and early 1980's. Members of the quartet were exclusively masked, thereby making any consistency in regards to personnel difficult to determine. The group often collaborated within the larger experimental music sphere and the downtown No Wave scene, including occasional integrations into the amorphously formed Shepherds of Apocrypha. As a solo entity, the Illuminati Quartet (IQ) focused its energies primarily on both modern and medieval music - recording works of Purcell, Berg, and, perhaps most notably, Stockhausen, whose Helikopter-Streichquartett became a staple of the group [1].
