Asparagaceae
A taxon of flowering plants including a wide range of species adapted to diverse climates, from temperate woodlands to arid deserts. Within desert environments, members of the family such as Agave and Yucca have been culturally significant, both as sources of food, fiber, and ritual use. The desert-dwelling forms of Asparagaceae have carry symbolic weight in folk traditions because of their spiny leaves, geometric rosette structures, and drought-resistant adaptations. In certain strands of modern paganism and occultism, plants of the Asparagaceae have been linked to endurance, transformation, and protection, drawing on their desert hardiness and ritual associations. Various demonological and occult writings frame them as plants of the wasteland, liminal symbols at the boundary of life and death.
