George Van Tassel (1910–1978)

An American aviation mechanic, contactee, and organizer of mid-20th-century UFO gatherings, most closely associated with the Mojave Desert. His early career included work with major aerospace companies, including Lockheed Corporation and Douglas Aircraft Company, where he was employed as a mechanic and inspector. In the 1950s, Van Tassel relocated to the desert near Landers, California, where he assumed custodianship of the Giant Rock property, the largest free standing boulder in North America and a purported locus point of extraterrestrial activity. Beginning in the early 1950s, Van Tassel reported a series of encounters with extraterrestrial intelligences, primarily Ashtar of the Ashtar Galactic Command - technologically advanced but benevolent entity communicating through telepathic or vibrational means. These communications provided him with detailed guidance and technical instructions, most notably for the construction of the Integratron, a dome-shaped structure intended to manipulate time, extend human lifespan, and interact with ambient energy fields. Construction of the Integratron began in 1954 and was completed in the months following his death in 1978.
