Nirvana (band)
[related: Nirvana (plane of existence), All Apologies]
Seminal 1990's grunge band led by the tragically charismatic singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain. Nirvana was semi-ironically named after the Buddhist term for the highest plane of existence[1] - a state of total freedom from desire, attachment, and ignorance. A full realization of The Emptiness. That consciousness is fundamental. That consciousness is what is. Cobain was seen by his fans as a prescient and almost Christ-like figure. The lyrics to band's final commercially released song, the cathartic dirge All Apologies, are commonly thought to have presaged the singer's death by suicide in 1994…
"...in the sun, I feel as one. Married . . .married….. . . . . married. . . .. . . .. buried."
- ↑ There were a number of other existent Nirvanas when the grunge movement emerged, forcing the band's label Geffen Records to spend close to seven figures settling various copyright infringement lawsuits.
