Cult of the Dead Cow AKA cDc
[related: B(l)ack Orifice, Grandmaster Ratte', Psychedelic Warlord]
DIY media organization led by Grandmaster Ratte' and launched in 1984 at the Farm Pac abattoir in Lubbock, Texas. The group's initial configuration included three lightly administered Bulletin Board Systems (BBS SysOps). The cDc spread organically throughout North America and came to include Lord Digital and other high profile members of the Legion of Doom/Masters of Deception [1]. In 1994, the cDc became the first hacking group with its own Usenet group, alt.fan.cult-dead-cow. What followed was a stunning stream of posts including the claim that the cDc ``infected" Ronald Reagan with Alzheimer's disease in 1987 via a blowgun. The following year saw the cDc declare a veritable war on Scientology, posting documentation that the religion's founder L. Ron Hubbard was in fact Heinrich Himmler, a former member of the Nazi SS. The group received international attention after unveiling the B(l)ack Orifice (an invasive remote third party administrative system for Microsoft Windows) at DEF CON 6 - a conference attended by leaders of the hacking, law enforcement, and techno-industrial communities. Like hacker/rap collective Konami Dream, the cDc produced and released music in order to inform and expand on their aesthetic. These efforts were led by cDc member Psychedelic Warlord, a teenage power electronics-loving poet and bass player born one Beto O'Rourke.
