French writer, photojournalist, filmmaker, and essayist. Of particular note is his short film La Jetée and his features Sans Soleil (Sunless) and Level Five, both of which feature a french female narrator and a focus on retro-futuristic digital technologies. At times, the virtual portal functionality (VPD) of Marker's work can be said to share properties with those of certain NES titles and '90's Windows™ applications. His work is often characterized by the development of various CODEX systems and a deep and sustained examination of boredom as it pertains to the persistence of cultural ritual resulting from over-industrialization:

"I've been 'round the world several times and now only banality still interests me. On this trip I've tracked it with the relentlessness of a bounty hunter. At dawn we'll be in Tokyo."
