Palimpsest
A writing surface reused and overwritten, where earlier inscriptions linger beneath the new. Ancient scribes, including those of the Egyptians and Late Antiquity, often recycled material, leaving behind layered records of thought. Thus, codices often carried a hidden strata, preserving lost philosophies and rituals under later writings. Entire lost worlds of philosophy, ritual, and science remain, like ghost-texts haunting the present.
