Valkyrie
[related: Fan Servicing]
Female figures littered throughout Norse Mythology. The Valkyrie are most often portrayed as shepherding fallen warriors to the golden halls Valhalla, though they are on occasion presented as (quite capable) warriors themselves. In an early example of fan servicing, the Valkyrie are often depicted as wearing metal or leather bikinis, despite the various militaristic and weather-dependent disadvantages of such attire. The role of the Valkyrie is central to Ragnarok, and they often appear as ravens and/or swans circling the apocalypse, moving fluidly between the impermeable barrier between life and death.
