Generation X AKA Gen X
A demographic cohort born between the early 1960's and late 1970's. Children of the 1980's - a "latchkey" generation raised under the spectre of MTV, Ronald Reagan, the supposed threat of Soviet communism, and the rampant use of cocaine. Often micro-tribal, a stereotypical Gen X'er displays an overall slacker mentality, eschewing more traditional pursuits in favor of hedonistic and counter-cultural pursuits. Gen X'er's were early adopters of The Internet, flocking to platforms such as UseNet, and often formed social circles based around collective interest in various musical sub-genres, including but not limited to hair metal, no wave, jazz fusion, early hip-hop, and power electronics.
